Sr. Callista Roy Flashcards
FOCUS
Ability of the person to make new
responses to constantly changing
challenges. As person adapts to situation
the person has opportunity to grow,
develop and enhance the meaning of life
is “the internal or external stimulus
most immediately confronting the human system”.
Focal Stimulus
stimuli “are all other stimuli present in the situation that
contribute to the effect of the focal stimulus”, that is, “contextual stimuli are
all the environmental factors that present to the person from within or without
but which are not the center of the person’sattention and/or energy”.
■Contextual Stimuli
“are environmental factors within or without the human
system with effects in the current situation that are unclear”.
■Residual Stimuli
WORKING AS A WHOLE TO MEET THE NEEDS
■INTEGRATED
–HUMAN’S RESPONSE SYSTEM HAVE BEEN
ACTIVATED
■COMPENSATORY
–COMPENSATORY AND INTEGRATED SYSTEM
ARE NOT WORKING
■COMPROMISED
are genetically determined and automatic
processes common to all human being.
■ Innate Coping Mechanism
developed through strategies such as
learning.
■ Acquired Coping Mechanism
major coping process involving the
neutral, chemical and endocrine
systems.
Regulator
major coping process involving four
cognitive-emotive channels,
related to higher brain functions
Cognator
establish structure, values and
daily activities that will contribute to the
general well being of the community.
Stabilizer
structures and processes that
promote change and growth.
Innovator
are
those “that promote integrity
in terms ofthe goals of
human systems”.
Adaptive Responses
are those “that do not contribute
to integrity in terms of the
goals of the human system”.
Ineffective Responses
All conditions,
circumstances, and
influences surrounding and
affecting the development
and behavior of persons and
groups with particular
consideration of mutuality of
person and earth resources,
including focal, contextual
and residual stimuli
Environment
The process and outcome
of individuals and groups
who use conscious
awareness, self reflection
and choice to create human
and environmental
integration
Adaptation
4 MODES OF ADAPTATION
■PHYSIOLOGIC-PHYSICAL
■SELF-CONCEPT GROUP IDENTITY
■ROLE FUNCTION
■INTERDEPENDENCE
1.Oxygenation
2.Nutrition
3.Elimination
4.Activity and rest
5.Protection
6.fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance
7.Neurological function
8.Endocrine function
PHYSIOLOGIC-PHYSICAL
■ composite of beliefs and feelings about oneself at
a given time and is formed from internal
perceptions of other’s reactions.
■ “it focuses specifically on the psychological and
spiritual aspects of the human system.
SELF-CONCEPT GROUP IDENTITY
A role, as the functioning unit of society, is defined
as a set of expectations about how a person
occupying one position behaves toward a person
occupying another position.
ROLE FUNCTION
The interdependence mode focuses on
close relationships of people
(individually and collectively) and their
purpose, structure, and development.
INTERDEPENDENCE
