How do you carry out the Shapiro-Wilk test in SPSS?

  1. Analyze –> descriptive statistics –> explore
  2. drag variable into dependent list
  3. click ‘plots’
  4. choose ‘histogram’ and ‘normality plots with tests’
  5. continue –> ok
  6. output window under ‘tests of normality
  7. ‘sig’ under shapiro-wilk is the p-value
  8. if p-value smaller than 0.05 it is not normally distributed: significantly different
