What are the 3 type of goals?
- Outcome goals
- Performance goals
- Process goals
What is an outcome goal?
A goal set against the performance of others and based on a result. For example, a team’s goal is to win the league.
What are performance goals and provide an example.
Goals which are focussed on getting a better performance, for example have 5 attempts on goal throughout the game.
What are process goals and provide a sporting example?
Goals which are based on improving technique. For example, a more wrapped foot on a cross in football.
How can outcome goals be damaging for a team?
Motivation may be damaged if the task is seen as unachievable.
What does SMARTER stand for?
They are the principles for goal setting:
Specific - goals should be clear and specific
Measured - goals should be measurable
Achievable - Goals should be possible
Realistic - Goals need to be possible
Time bound - Need a deadline for goals
Evaluate - goals should be evaluated
Redo - If goals are not achieved, they need to be re done.
