Injury occurring spontaneously while playing sport
Examples of acute injuries
Ankle sprain
Bruises
Concussion
Lower back strain
Hamstring tear
Ice treatment and rest are followed by stretching and straining exercises
Concussion
Player tested for confusion and amnesia. If they pass they are able to continue playing
Define chronic injury
Injuries involving soft tissue, ligaments, or tendons
Example of chronic injury
Stress fracture
Causes, treatment, symptoms of shin splints
CAUSES Poor posture Excessive training Fallen arches in the feet Incorrect gait Muscle fatigue in lower limbs TREATMENT saltaps and ricer Federal to medical specialist SYMPTOMS initial pain may be caused by slight inflammation in the muscle, overtime pain may become constant and extremely uncomfortable
Define sprain injury
Injury to a ligament
Tennis elbow
Define strain injury
Injury to a muscle
Quad strain
Signs and symptoms of soft tissue injury
Pain
Swelling
Loss of movement
Direct injuries example
Player vs player
Player vs equipment
Indirect injury example
The application of a force greater than the body part can structurally withstand
SALTAPS
Stop play immediately
Ask the player what happened
Look at the injury
Touch the injured player to asses injury
Active movement so the player fi they can move
Passive movement
Stand up , play on
RICER

Prevention to injury - 13
Warm up Have correct technique Appropriate skill progression Follow the rules Protective equipment Make sure equipment is safe Stay warm Have medical clearance from any previous injury Use common sense Rest Drink fluids Balanced competition Cool down
Heal
The body will begin to naturally heal
Stretch
This includes moving the injured area to where it is capable
Strengthen
After increased mobility attempt to put weight on the injury
4 main ligament in the knee
Posterior cruciate ligament
Anterior cruciate ligament
Medial collateral
Lateral collateral
Where is medial Cl
Closest to the middle of the body
Lateral Cl where
Outer side of body
Where ACL
In front of PCL
What is the ACL
one of the four main ligaments in the knee which can be torn with twist, pivot or slip which requires surgery to reconstruct the knee with tendon tissue
