Names and functions of blood vessels
A
Arteries: carries oxygen-rich blood away from heart to the body. Except for pulmonary artery, which carries oxygen depleted blood away from heart to the lungs.
Veins: carry blood with low oxygen content towards the heart (except for pulmonary vein which carries oxygen rich blood)
Capillaries: are the smallest blood vessels and are the site of exchange of nutrients and wastes between the blood and the body cells.
