Gas exchange

A

Oxygen and carbon dioxide more between the lung and blood by the thin walls of both the alveoli and capillaries, this is where the diffusion happens

Steps with breathing in

A
  • as the diaphragm contracts the chest cavity expands

- as it expands the pressure inside decreases and so the air under higher pressure outside the lungs is sucked in

  • expiration occurs when the diaphragm relaxes and the chest cavity returns to its smaller at rest state.
