• LC had no formal education - no literacy, simple sports with little/no rules, violent

No structured system of law (because little education), society was unruly and sport was therefore violent

• UC - Had access to transport e.g. horse and carriage and therefore could play sport further away
• LC - Had limited access to sport e.g. walking so sport was local
