• W.C. performers with high ability are payed to play e.g. factory football players - “broken time payments”
• “W.C. professionals”
• amateurism now dominated by middle class - they had time and money
• some sports feature amateur and professional performers e.g. cricket (UC batted, LC fielding and bowling)
