- Cricket was in fact more popular than football after the Ashes Test in 1948

-Led to a decline in ticket sales. Only 30 million tickets sold per year through the 60’s and 70’s

- Increase in ticket prices meant less people could go (despite rising living standards)
- Rise in hooliganism partly due to Youth Culture
- Societal issues such as racism becoming more exposed
