unpaired intraperitoneal, lymphoreticular organ, used in immune system and acts as a filter
where is the spleen located
at the superior left side of the abdominal cavity between the 9th-11th rib in the mid axillary line
what are the surfaces of the spleen?
- cardiodiaphragmatic surface
- visceral surface
what are the borders of the spleen and what is special about these borders?
- superior border - anterosuperior margin of the spleen, and has identitation
- inferior border - posteroinferior margin of the spleen and is held in position by the phrenicolic ligament forming the floor for the organ
what is the splenic hilum, and where is it located?
located on the visceral surface of the spleen through which vessels and nerves enter and exit the organ
how is the visceral surface divided?
post surface - in contact with the left kidney
ant. sup. surface - is in contact with the stomach
ant. inf. surface - is in contact with the tail of the pancreas and left colic flexure
the gastrosplenic ligament….
a peritoneal ligament that connects the splenic helium and the greater curvature of the stomach
