Pericardium Flashcards
1
Q
what is the pericardium? and what does it occupy?
A
a fibrous sac enclosing the heart and occupies the mediastinum
2
Q
what are the layers of the pericardium?
A
- parietal layer
- visceral layer
3
Q
the parietal pericardium….
A
- cont. with the tunica adventitia
- leaves the heart via the pretracheal layer and cervical fascia
- outer part is fibrous
- inner part is serous layer covered by mesothelial cells
- pericardial membrane attaches on the parietal pleura
- connected to the diaphragm by the pericardiophrenic ligament
4
Q
the visceral pericardium….
A
reflects on the heart and great vessels
5
Q
the reflections of the visceral pericardium
A
- arterious > at the division of the p. trunk and the start of the aortic arch
- venous > begins at the IVC & extends up to the lower R. pulmonary vein and extends SVC where the azygous vein enters
6
Q
the pericardiac sinus…
A
- transverse pericardiac sinus= post to the p. trunk and aortic arch, anterior to the SVC
- oblique pericardiac sinus= located at the venous reflection which includes: r. and l. p. veins and IVC
7
Q
arterial supply of the pericardium
A
- pericardiophrenic a.
- musculophrenic a.
- coronary a.
8
Q
venous drainage of the pericardium
A
-pericardiophrenic vein to the brachiocephalic v.
9
Q
nerve supply of the pericardium
A
- phrenic n.
- sympathetic trunk
