pancreas Flashcards
the pancreas….
an accessory digestive gland, lays retro-peritoneal
the secretion type of the pancreas
exocrine = pancreatic juice endocrine = insulin, glycogen, somatostatin
how many parts does the pancreas have? and what is it adjacent to in every part?
- head = has the uncinate process, rests post. on the IVC, the common bile duct is on the post. sup. surface
- neck =behind it the sup. messenteric vein joins the splenic veins to form the portal vein
- body = psses over the 12th vertebra, post. to omental bursa, post, it is in contact with the aorta, sup. mesenteric a., left suprarenal gland, left kidney and renal vessels
- tail = mobile and is inside the splenorenal ligament, lies ant. to the left kidney
what are the ducts of the pancreas?
- main pancreatic duct of wirsung
- ampulla of vaters
- accessory pancreatic duct of santorini
wirsung’s duct….
begins at the tail through the paenchyma until the head and joins the bile duct to form hepatopancreatic duct
ampulla of vater’s
open to the major duodenal papilla of vaters and controlled by oddi’s spincter (smooth muscle)
accessory pancreatic duct of santorini
opens into duodenum at a higher portion, begins at the head and opens into santorini’s papilla
blood supply of the pancreas
- superior pancreaticoduodenal a.
- inferior pancreaticoduodenal a.
- dorsal pancreatic a.
- pancreatic branch
- great pancreatic a.
- artery of the tail of the pancreas
what forms the 1st riolan anastomosis around the head of the pancreas?
the superior and inferior pancreaticoduodenal arteries
what is venous drainage of the pancreas?
- pancreatic veins to the splenic vein
- pancreaticoduodenal vein to the superior mesenteric vein
lymphatic drainage of the pancreas?
pancreatico splenic lymph node to the superior mesenteric lymph node
innervation of the pancreas
- abdomino pelvic splanchnic n. (sympathetic)
- vagus (parasympathetic)
- *** both go to the superior mesenteric plexus
