Spine Disorders 2 Flashcards
Subacute Combined Degeneration of the Cord can be caused by
B12 deficiency or neurosyphilis
Subacute Combined Degeneration of the Cord has as main Cxfx
Position and vibratory sensation are lost.
Spinal Trauma cxfx are
1.- limb weakness and/or sensory disturbance**
2.- Sphincter function
impaired.
3.- Loss of DTRs**
During Spinal Trauma, how is the limb weakness and/or sensory disturbance?
- Acute onset
- below the level of the injury with the severity in proportion to the degree of injury
During Spinal Trauma, how is the Loss of DTRs?
at the level of the injury And, followed by hyperreflexia below the level of the trauma.
Spinal Trauma management/treatment
glucocorticoids.
Brown-Sequard Syndrome occurs after: (cause)
unilateral hemisection of spinal cord from an injury such as a knife wound cutting half the cord or compression from a mass lesion
Brown-Sequard Syndrome CxFx
1.- Loss of pain and
temperature on the contralateral side from the injury
2.- Loss of motor function
as well as position and vibratory sense on the ipsilateral side of the injury
For a Brown-Sequard Syndrome caused by a mass, the Tx is
surgically decompress.
