Spinal Cord Lesion & Blood Supply Flashcards
Mention results of complete spinal cord transection
Above C5, death due to respiratory muscle paralysis
Between C5 & T1 —quadriplegia
Below T1 — paraplegia
Mention resukts of hemisection of spinal cord at different levels
At level of lesion, ipsiltaeral loss of all sensations (interruption of dorsal horn), LMNL due to damage of ant horn cells
Below level of lesion ipsilateral, loss of proprioceptive sensations (dorsal white column affection) + UMNL (interruption of corticospinal tract)
Below level of lesion contralateral, loss of pain & temperature sensations (lateral spinothalamic tract lesion)
Mention results of anterior spinal artery occlusion on spinal cord
- Biltaeral UMNL below level of lesion.
- Bilateral loss of pain & temp below lesion with preservation of proprioception & fine touch.
Name the arterial circle around spinal cord
Arterial vasacorona
Adamkieweicz artery arises from….,,
11th intercostal artery
The …..segment is most likely to become ischemic while….has richest blood supply
Mid-thoracic
Lumbar
Enumerate spinal veins
Anterior & posterior medial veins
2 Anterolateral & 2 potserokateral which run on either side of ventral & dorsal roots
Spinal veins drain into…..which communicates with….. Near the skull, the longitudinal veins communicate with….&….
Internal vertebral venous plexus
Intervertebral veins
Cerebellar & cranial venous sinuses
