Blood Supply Of Brain Stem Flashcards
Mention arteries supplying medulla oblongata
Anterior spinal artery
Posterior inferior cerebellar artery
Medullary branches of vertebral artert (supply intermediate area, olive)
Posterior spinal artery (supply posterior part of closed medulla, gracile & cuneate nuclei)
Describe medial medullary syndrome
Anterior spinal art occlusion
Pyramid, contralateral hemiplegia, UMNL but flaccid paralysis
Medial leminiscus, C/L loss of fine touch & proprioception
XII nucleus, ipsilateral LMNL of tongue muscles
Describe lateral medullary syndrome
- Spinocerebellar & ICP, cerebellar ataxia
- Spinal nucleus of V & spinal tract of V, ipsilateral loss of pain & temp from face
- Spinal leminiscus, C/L loss of pain & temp from body
- Nucleus ambiguus, ipsilateral paralysis of larynx, pharynx & palate
- Nucleus solitarius, loss of taste
- Descedning sympathetic fibers, Horner’s syndrome
Mention blood supply of pons & lesion
Basilar artery branches
Pontine hemorrhage, pin-point pupil, hyperpyrexia, qaudriplegia
Mention blood supply of midbrain
Posterior cerebral & superior cerebellar arteries
