10
Q

Hemisection or Brown sequard sun. Sx ?

A
  • dorsal = ips loss of fine touch/ vibration/proprioception
  • Anterior horn = IPs LMS ( hypo reflex, flaccid paralysis)
  • Lat Corticospinal = Cont. UMS below lesion
  • spinalthalamic = contralat. Loss of 1-2 levels below loss crude touch and pressure & @ level loss of P&T

Anterior horn defect : spinal muscular atrophy inheritance patterns, gene, sx

A

AR, smn1, chrom 5
Floppy baby, tongue fasciculations

24
Q

Any horn, poliomyelitis sx

A

**A symmetrical paralysis
LMN signs
May evolve the brain stem
May occur years later
Ix stool

25
Q

Ant horn: West Nile virus symptoms

A

Fever rash myalgia meningitis acute asymmetrical flaccid paralysis

26
Q

Main cause of syringomyelia

A

Chiari malformation = herniating cerebella tonsils = hydrocephalus
HA + ataxia

27
Q

Sx of syringomyelia

A

B/l loss (cape like loss) P&T pressure and crude touch of upper extremities

Can lead to damage to motor damage

28
Q

Sx neuro syphilis

A

Dorsal column signs
Slurred speech, change in behaviour, memory loss
Argyll Roberson pupil ( lost light refelex

29
Q

Rx neurosuphallis

A

Penicillin

30
Q

Dorsal Column syndromes

A

SCD
Neurosphysis

31
Q

Folate vs b12 deficiency

A

Both cause pancytopenia
Methylmalonic acid is raised in b12 def

32
Q

What builds up in friedrech ataxia ?

A

Fe
= neuronal death effect Spinocerebellar tract = ataxia

33
Q

Sx of Friedreich ataxia

A
34
Q

Non neuro or cutaneous sx of friedreich ataxia

A
