Spondylosis
Degeneration if VT disc
Associated with bone spurs
Causes: aging, repetitive use, trauma
Presents with stiffness, limited sitting tolerance and pain with activity
Spondyloysis
Defect in pars intrarticularis or arch of vertebra
Related to hyper extension
Pain can radiate into buttocks and leg
Pain worse with strenuous activity
Spondylisthesis
Forward displacement of one vertebra on another
Pathology and trauma
Could cause numbered or weakness in one or both legs
Pain increases with extension
Stenosis
Central stenosis - narrowing of spinal canal
Lateral or foraminal stenosis - narrowing of foramen
Can be caused by bone growth or herniated disc
Instability
Movement of segment beyond normal constraints
Abnormal response to applied load
Pt feels back shifts or gives out (buckles)
