Active- Passive Muscle Insufficiency
The limited ability of a two joint muscle to produce force (active maximal measurable tension) when joint position places the muscle on a stretch or it has maximally shortened at its end range.
Example of active insufficiency
Hip flexion with knee extension: rectus is actively over shortened and hamstrings are passively stretched.
Example of active insufficiency
Hip extension with knee flexion: hamstrings are actively over shortened and rectus is passively stretched.
