Hip ROM/arthrokinematics Flashcards
What are the motions of the hip joint ?
Flexion
Extension
Abduction
Adduction
External Rotation
Internal Rotation
What are the norm values for ROM at the hip joint?
Flexion : 0-120°
Extension + Adduction : 0-30°
Abduction, External + Internal Rotation: 0-45°
What are the ROM values necessary for gait?
Flexion: 40-60°
Extension: 15-20°
What is the resting position for the hip joint?
30° flexion, abduction, and slight ER
What is the closed packed position for the hip joint?
Extension, IR, and Abduction
What is the capsular pattern for the hip joint?
Flexion, Abduction, and IR
What is the end feel of the hip joint?
Firm
What does the iliofemoral “Y” ligament do?
Resists ext/ER - strongest ligament in the body
What does the Pubofemoral ligament do?
Resists abduction, extension, ER
What does the ischiofemoral ligament do?
Provides resistance to extension and IR
Open kinetic chain motion
Convex head of the femur moves in opposite direction of joint motion
Closed kinetic chain motion
Concave acetabulum moves in the same direction as the pelvis.
