Speed Flashcards
What is terminal velocity?
When an object’s weight (that is falling) is balanced by the air resistance and it reaches a steady speed.
How do you calculate (average) speed?
(Average) speed = distance / time
What is average speed measured in?
M/s
What does the vertical axis of a distance tine graph show?
Distance travelled from the start.
What does the horizontal axis of a distance time graph show?
Time from the start
When an object is stationary, what will the line representing it on the graph look like?
It will be horizontal
If an object is moving at a steady speed, what will the line look like?
It will be diagonal
If an object is accelerating or deaccelerating, what will the line look like?
It will be curved
What is the equation for acceleration?
Acceleration = change in velocity / time taken
Change in velocity is the difference between the starting speed and the end speed
How do you calculate distance when you have a start speed and an end speed?
distance = ((u + v)/2) x time
What force pulls an object towards the ground?
Weight (not gravity)
Does mass change if you have a different gravitational field strength?
No
What is the equation for distance?
distance = speed x time
What is the equation for time?
time = distance / speed
What are the units for acceleration?
m/s/s or m/s2
