Electricity Flashcards
1
Q
What is electric current?
A
The rate of flow of electric charge.
2
Q
When does an electric current flow?
A
When electrons move through a conductor
3
Q
What is current measured in?
A
Amperes (amps/ A), the ammeter must be connected in series when measuring current.
4
Q
What is potential difference (voltage)?
A
A measure of the energy in a circuit. It is measured in volts (V). The voltmeter in a circuit must be in parallel with the component.
5
Q
What is resistance?
A
The opposition to electrical current moving through components in a circuit.
6
Q
How can you increase resistance?
A
By increasing the length of the wire.
By making the wire thinner.
