Spectroscopy Flashcards
What is done in the AES
Sample is converted into gas then excited using a flame or electricity
Which excites the atoms which then release energy in the form of light
What is AES
Atomic Emission Spectroscopy
Used for chemical analysis ( identification and analysis of elements within a sample) quantativelh as it measures the light produced
Usually fit invisible region 400-700nm
Sme tikes energy difference is greater and falls into UV region 200-400nm
What is the AAS
Technique to determine the concentration of a particular metal element in a sample
What is done to the electrons in the AAS
Promoted to higher energy levels by absorbing energy
Usually within 200-700nm
What are the uses of the AES and the AAS
Give info as to how much of a species is in a sample
In AAS calibration graph prepared from known concs
What is proportional to the concentration of the element
Intensity of radiation emitted or absorbed
