Specialty medications my notes Flashcards
The medications highlighted in yellow are sent to the providers office…its shipped right to the office and the office deals with storage, administration, monitoring, if the patient has to stay they have that planned into their schedule where they are going to stay…or call a patient to get an update where they are at, get an update for their medication history, medical history, any changes in allergies, any new allergies but they also have the option where we just call the office and set up delivery for those and we can do the checking with office as well because they are obviously monitoring these patients we can check for allergies, any changes in medications, etc
Santyl is NOT a specialty medication but when we get a prescription in for this if the prescription is annotated with wound dimensions we can just go to calculator and get how much we need to dispense for a 30 day supply of Santyl that way we ensure we are giving the patient enough medication to treat what they need to treat for the proper amount of time and so they are not going to run out but also at the same time saving medication so we are not sending them too much where there is a lot of waste…there are certain times where pt might need 2 30 gram tubes but they are only going to use 40 grams but we can’t go any smaller in delivery size
The medications highlighted in yellow have to be sent to the office and administered in the provider’s offices
Specialty medications require higher levels of ______________ and want higher levels of __________________ aiding them in finding financial assistance, better direction and better followup with the patient themselves

Is Hepatitis C one of our vaccine preventable disease states? NO!, treatment of it is very important, counseling patients on routes of transmission, things to avoid, we can implement ourselves beyond here’s your medication, here’s whats to expect, we can add more of an intervention there as well
HIV/AIDs…PREP vs PEP vs chronic treatment different ways we are going to manage patients based on what the goals of therapy
Limited distribution (may not be high cost medication, may be medications that were widely accessed across the market but now either the drug manufacturers are pulling them back or certain medications like walgreens deciding only to put them in the specialty stores to promote higher level of care, higher level of service providing more services in those stores because they are better equip to do those things that’s why a medication might be ending up being LDD due to heavier involvement with patient care
Specialty stores can ship to multiple different __________in the area but you have to licensed in those states as well to be able to send medications…there are things you need to do to maintain license to be dispensing that medication
