Specialised Cells Flashcards
1
Q
What does specialised mean?
A
Adaptations to carry out particular functions
2
Q
What is differenitiation?
A
Process where cells are made specialised
3
Q
Name the 3 specialised animal cells
A
- Sperm
- Nerve
- Muscle
4
Q
What is special about the sperm cell?
A
- nucleus (carry’s genetic info)
- Tail (helps swim)
- Mitochondria (energy to swim)
- Enzymes in acrosome (helps digest way through outer layer of egg)
5
Q
What is special about the nerve cell?
A
- Axon (carries electric impulses)
- Mylom (insulates axon which speeds up transmission of nerve impulses)
- Synopses (allows impulse to pass from one cell to another
- Denodires (increases surface area which allows new cells to connect easily)
6
Q
What is special about the muscle cell?
A
- Can contract
- Has protein fiber
- mitochondria - energy fro muscles to contract
