What does scanning allow us to do?
Look deeper into the brain more than brain surgery
What type of scans are there?
- CT scans
- Pet scans
What do CT scans do?
Shows shape of the structure of the brain
How does the CT scan work?
An x-ray beam moves around the patients head and detectors will measure the absorption of the Xrays
What happens with the information form the CT scan?
A computer will use the info to build n image og the brain in slices
What do PET scans do?
Show brain activity
How do PET scans work?
The patient is injected with radioactive glucose ( for respiration)
What does the radioactive glucose do?
Cause gamma rays which the scanner will detect
What does spinal cord damage do?
Reduce the flow of information for the brain to the rest of the body
What can nerve damage in the spinal cord cause?
Loss of feeling the legs
What can damage in the neck cause?
Quadriplegia ( loss of feeling in both arms and legs)
