Specialised cells Flashcards
How are sperm cells specialised.
Specialised for reproduction.
Long tail and streamlined head - (to help it swim).
A lot of mitochondria to provide the energy.
Carries enzymes in its head to digest through the egg cell’s membrane.
How are nerve cells specialised.
Specialised for rapid signalling
Cells are long to cover more distance.
Branched connections at their ends to connect to other neurons and form a network throughout the body.
How are muscle cells specialised.
Specialised for contraction.
Cells are long to the have space to contract.
Lots of mitochondria to generate the energy to contract.
How are root hair cells specialised.
Specialised for absorbing water and minerals.
Large surface area more water and mineral ions can be absorbed at once from the soil.
How are phloem and xylem cells specialised.
Specialised for transporting substances
Both are tubes that transport food and water around plants.
Joined end to end to form long tubes.
Xylem are hollow in the centre.
Phloem cells have very few subcellular structures so things can flow through.
