SPECIAL STAINS Flashcards
Part 1
What is the most used satin in the lab
H & E
mention what haematoxylin and eosin stains
Haematoxylin stain cell nuclei to blue while eosin stains stains other structures to pink or red
Why do we need an extra help of special stains in the lab or research
In order to reach a diagnosis or evaluate a tissue to differentiate components that have already been seen in H & E
Why is H & E mostly used
It highlight the details in tissues and cells
What questions does H & E raises
- what type of tissue is present
- which tissue component is that
- Is that an organism
Why is the positive control needed during special staining
- positive control helps to determine whether the special stain is working
- Served as a reference of what the substance should look like in test tissue section
Why is H & E still being used
Is because this stain is important for providing detail of tissue and cell structure as well as differentiation
Why are special stains used
Is because H & E can not provide all the information needed by the pathologist
why are special stains called so
Its because they are not routinely used
