How does the DVRS work?
When activated, the DVRS creates a local repeater site at the scene of an incident with hopes to broadcast a stronger signal into the area of operations. This works by using a conventional radio frequency that gets rebroadcasted back to the public safety system P25 radio system.

Why do I hear radio traffic on a Direct Channel?
The DVRS uses conventional radio channels to
rebroadcast messages. In this instance, if there is a team operating on 016, and a DVRS get turned on in the area, they will start hearing
transmissions from the corresponding DVRS channel.

Why should I use the Opposite Direct Channel?
using the opposite direct channel from that of the one used by the DVRS will eliminate the possibility of any confusion between portable radios who have repeater signal and portable radios that do not have radio signal (Radio Relay Operations). This will eliminate the possibility of missing transmissions or stepping on another transmission you wont hear if out of range.

Is a feature that allows another unit to “take” the primary function from the unit acting as the current
primary. By default, the 1st unit that is turned on will become the Primary. At the direction of incident command, a vehicle in a better
position may be directed to activate their DVRS, without turning off the other units DVRS, they would be recognized as a secondary unit.
By pressing and holding the DVRS button once on will force that unit into the Primary Role without having to coordinate the shutdown of
other units on the scene.
