Sound and Light Megan Mayer Flashcards
What is pitch?
The highness and lowness of a tone.
What is a sound wave?
A longitudinal wave that travels through a medium. Caused by vibrations.
What is a Infrasound?
A sound below the range of human hearing.
What is ultrasound?
A sound with the frequency being above the human hearing range
What is decibel?
It’s the unit for what relative intensity is messed in (dB)
What is intensity?
The rate at which a sound wave moves energy through a medium
What is resonance?
When two things are amplified and are vibrating at the same frequencies
What is fundamental frequency?
When the wavelength is twice the length
What is harmonics?
When whole number multiples of that frequency
What is sonar?
Determines distance by measuring time for the waves to reflect form a surface.
What is basilar membrane?
Inside of the cochlea that is a long and flexible membrane
What is photon?
A beam of light that has no mass like bundles of energy. A unit or quantum of light.
What is intensity?
Depends on the amount of light. The number of photons that move through a given space.
What is a radar?
Determines velocity and location of objects.
What is the electromagnetic spectrum?
A full range of light that consists of all frequencies, energies, and wavelengths.
