sound and light Flashcards
What is ultrasound?
A sound wave that has higher frequencies than 20 000 Hz
What is a sound wave?
Made my vibrations that goes through a medium and is a longitudinal wave.
What is resonance?
When two object vibrate at the same frequency and is a phenomenon.
What is Intensity?
In a area the flow of the energy in which it’s rate.
What is Decibel?
A unit related to intensity
What is Fundamental frequency?
The frequency of the vibrations.
What is Harmonics?
Certain whole number multiplies of its fundamental frequency.
What is pitch?
Measure of how low or high a sound is perceived by depending on the frequency of the sound wave.
What is sonar?
It stands for sound navigation and ranging, a system that uses signals and echoes return to determine where the object is.
What is Basilar Membrane?
A long and flexible membrane that is in the Cochlea.
What is Photon?
A unit or quantum of light.
What is intensity?
The rate the energy flows through a given Space or area.
What is Radar?
Stands for radio detection and ranging, it’s a system that uses reflective radio waves that determines the velocity and location of objects.
What is Electromagnetic Spectrum?
Light that fills the air and space around us and consists of light at all possible energies, frequencies, and wavelengths.
What is light Ray?
A line in space that matches the direction of the flow of radiant energy.
What is virtual image?
An image that forms at a location from witch light rays don’t actually come, but they appear to.
What is a real image?
An image formed by light rays that come together at a specific location.
What is diffuse reflection?
A reflection of light into random directions.
What is geometrical optics?
The study of light in cases in which light behaves like a ray.
What is the angle of reflection?
The angle made by a reflected ray with a perpendicular to the reflecting surface.
What is the angle of incidence?
The angle that an incident line or ray makes with a perpendicular to the surface at the point of incidence.
What is the law of reflection?
The law of reflection states that the incident ray, the reflected ray, and the normal to the surface of the mirror all lie in the same plane.
What is normal?
The angle of reflection - In waves, the angle formed by the reflected wave.
What is a convex mirror?
Where the mirror is bent outward.
What is a concave mirror?
Where the mirror is bent inward.
What is total internal reflection?
Whenever full amount of reflection on a object.
What is lens?
The transparent object that reflects light waves so that they converge diverge to create an image.
What is magnification?
A change in the size of an image compared to the dice of the object.
What is prism?
A system that consists of two or more plane surfaces of a transparent solid at an angle with each other.
What is dispersion?
The separation of visible light into its different colors.
What is mirage?
An image that is displaced above, below, or to one side of its true position.
What is converging lens?
A lens that curves both ways outward and inward where light coming out of it meets at the focal point.
What is focal point?
The point on the axis of a mirror or lens at which all incident parole light rays converge or diverge.
