atoms and the periodic table. Johnathan Flashcards
What are protons?
Subatomic particle that has a positive charge. Also it’s found nucleus of an atom.
What is a nucleus?
A central region of a atom and it’s made up of protons and neutrons.
What are neutrons?
Has no charge and is found in the nucleus of an atom.
What are electrons?
Has negative charge and also is a subatomic particle.
What is orbital?
In a atom there is a high probability of finding electrons.
What is valence electron?
Electron founded in the outside shell of an atoms. It also determines the atoms chemical properties.
What is a periodic law?
Electron found in the outer shell and determines the elects chemical property
What is a period?
Row of elects on chart
What is a group?
Column of elements on chart?
What is a ion?
Adam or group of atoms that wins or loses an electron changing the charge to either positive or negative.
What is the atomic number?
The number of protons and electrons in a atom?
What is a mass number
Proton plus nuetrons
What is a isotope
Atom with the same number of protons as the other of the same element but different number of neutrons
What is the atomic mass unit (amu)?
Describes the mass of an atom or molicule, it is 1/12 of the mass of a carbon atom with a mass number of 12
What is the average atomic mass?
Weighted average of masses of all naturally isotopes of an element.
