Chapter 7 Solutions Johnathan Flashcards
Colloid
Mixture of tiny particles that are intermediate in six
Zoe between the solutions and suspensions that are suspended in the three states of matter.
Emulsion
Mix of 2 or more Immiscible liquids one is dispersed in the other.
Solution
Mix of two or more substances uniformly dispersed through a single phase and is homogeneous
Solute
Substance that dissolves in solvent
Solvent
Substance in which solute dissolves
Alloy
The mix of a solid or a liquid of two or more metals.
Polar compound
Has uneven distribution of electrons and is a molecule
Hydrogen bonding
Intermolecular force occurring when a hydrogen atom that is bonded to a highly electronegative atom of one molecule.
Nonpolar compounds
Compound that the electrons are equally distributed among the atoms.
Solubility
The max amount of solute that will dissolve in a given quantity of solvent in a given pressure or temp
Concentration
Amount of particular substance in a given quantity of mix solution or ore
Unsaturated solution
it contains less solute than a saturated solution does and it’s able to dissolve additional solute.
Saturated solution
It cannot dissolve any more solute under the given conditions
Supersaturated solution
Holds more than dissolve solute than required to reach the equilibrium at any temp
Molarity
Concentration of solution in moles dissolved solute per liter of solution
