Somatosensory System 1 Flashcards
Somatosensory afferent neurons project to the ____ somatosensory coretex
contralateral
Where are somatosensory afferent neuron cell bodies located?
Dorsal root ganglia
Trigeminal cranial nerve 5
What are the components of a pathway for somatosensory?
Sensory info is conveyed from the PNS to the CNS through ordered neurons. Integration occurs at tevery synapse. Decussation always occurs and the pathway terminates at the somatosensry cortex
Describe the Dorsal Column pathway
Receptoes for touch, pressure, vibration, and proprioception go into the DRG and decussate at the medulla and end in the primary somatosensory coretex
Anterlateral pathway
Recpetors for pain, temperature, itch, tickle decuasste at the spine and end in the primary somatosensory cortex
What is the somatosensory cortex
It is the termination point for all sensory information, Recieves and process sensory information. Recieved information contralaterally. The cortical homunculus is found here
Who created the Cortical Homunculus
Wilder Penfield
