What are Bus Lanes?
These are lanes which only buses and taxis can use during operational hours (morning and evening rush hour)
Why were bus lanes introduced?
They reduce journey times for buses, as well as allowing other traffic to flow more easily without having to stop behind buses at every bus stop
Positive of Bus lanes? (fine)
the £30 fine that motorists receive for using the bus lanes during operational hours acts as a deterrent
Positive of Bus lanes (what can the fine be used for?)
The money from the fines can be used to reinvest in local transport strategies
Negative of Bus Lanes? (buses aren’t encouraged enough)
Buses aren’t used enough for this strategy to be effective, so more needs to be done to encourage the use of buses
Negative of Bus lanes? (less space on roads)
Bus lanes mean that there’s less space on the road for other vehicles which may result in more congestion
