Solubility of salts - LEARN Flashcards
What types of compounds are always soluble?
All sodium (Na + ), potassium (K + ), and ammonium (NH 4 + ) compounds are soluble.
What nitrate compounds are soluble?
All nitrate (NO 3 - ) compounds are soluble.
Are chloride (Cl - ) compounds soluble?
Chloride (Cl - ) compounds are generally soluble.
Exceptions: Silver chloride (AgCl) and Lead(II) chloride (PbCl 2 ) are not soluble.
What sulfate (SO 4 2- ) compounds are soluble?
Sulfate (SO 4 2- ) compounds are generally soluble.
Exceptions: Barium sulfate (BaSO 4 ), Calcium sulfate (CaSO 4 ), and Lead(II) sulfate (PbSO 4 ) are not soluble.
What is the solubility of carbonate (CO 3 2- ) compounds?
Carbonate (CO 3 2- ) compounds are generally insoluble.
Soluble exceptions include Sodium carbonate (Na 2 CO 3 ), Potassium carbonate (K 2 CO 3 ), and Ammonium carbonate ((NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 ).
What is the solubility of hydroxide (OH - ) compounds?
Hydroxide (OH - ) compounds are generally insoluble.
Soluble exceptions include Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and Potassium hydroxide (KOH). Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH) 2 ) is slightly soluble.
