High Rise
A high rise is any building which is ______, regardless of the location of the fire.
4 floors or greater
The first arriving unit shall proceed as follows:
1) Initial report/call for additional resources.
- Report fire conditions
- If nothing is showing on arrival, assume a concealed fire
- If fire or smoke is showing consider calling additional alarms
2) Establish command
3) Direct incoming companies
4) If the first arriving unit is an engine ladder or rescue company they will report to the lobby with an appropriate equipment to begin operations.
First arriving companies entering the lobby shall follow these guidelines:
- Obtain information from security/building management
- Obtain building plans from security/building management or lock box.
- Obtain keys for elevators, windows, stairway doors
- Locate fire control room
- Obtain fire phone
- Determine means of ascent
Highrise, Incident Priorities/Command considerations
- Establish/Assume command
- Consider additional alarms
- Provide for life safety
- Assign sector
- Attack fire and protect exposures
- Assure accountability system
- Assign RIT
- Provide for ventilation and control of HUAC
- Provide for water supply
- Consider evacuation
- Lobby key control
- Air supply

High rise, the location of the command post will be determined by the IC. Possible command locations include the following:
- Outside the structure
- In or near the building systems control area
- In the lobby
High rise, will have to use elevators but all three of the following conditions must be met:
- Positive key control of the elevators is established
- Information indicates that elevators are safe house
- Hoist way is clear of smoke and fire
High rise The elevators shall be taken no higher than ______ the fire floor. If the elevator are used for the initial ascent the initial attack crew will stop every ______ to recheck the hoist way.
- Two floors below the fire
- Stop every 5 floors to recheck
Communication by portable radio within a highrise may be difficult at times. It may be necessary to use secondary means of communications such as the below:
- In house fire phone
- Intercoms and other in house systems
- Other phones within the building
- Cellular phones
Highrise Companies entering the building will bring ______, not required for initial attack team companies per person.
