What are the four parts of Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model of development from smallest to largest?
The microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem and macrosystem.
What factors make up the microsystem?
Home, Immediate family, school… A person’s immediate relationships and activities
What factors make up the mesosystem?
Home, School, Neighbourhood and work - Interactions and relationships between and among two or more contexts with all elements of microsystem involved (Teachers interacting with parents as an example)
What factors make up the exosystem?
Parents’ workplace, community services, mass media… - Social settings a child isn’t directly involved in but indirectly influences learning and exosystem.
What factors make up the macrosystem?
Beliefs, customs, cultural values, laws… - What impacts the life opportunities of people.
What are the five factors that allow multicultural education to be built?
Content integration, knowledge construction process, prejudice reduction, empowering school culture and social structure and an equity pedagogy (Matching teaching styles to student learning style).
What are some effects of divorce on boys and girls within 2 years following a divorce?
Weight loss/gain, sleeping difficulties, fluctuating attendance. Boys may have a higher rate of behavioural issues and girls may have more issues trusting males.
Define the socio-economic status (SES).
SES is the relative standing in a society based on income, power, background and prestige.
Define ethnicity.
Ethnicity is a cultural heritage or characteristics such as history, homeland, language, traditions or religion shared by a group.
Define race.
Race is a group of people who share common traits that are seen as self-defining by the people of the group.
