Define constructivism
The view that emphasises the active role of the learner in building understanding and making sense of information
Define radical constructivism
The view in which knowledge is assumed to be the individual’s construction; it can’t be judged right or wrong.
What is Vygotsky’s proposed theory?
Social constructivism - where learning is located with others and in a group, social and cultural contexts.
Define constructionism
The theoretical approach concerned with how public knowledge in disciplines such as math, science and history is constructed.
What is an intersubjective attitude?
A commitment to build shared meaning with others by finding common ground and exchanging interpretations
What is inquiry learning?
The approach in which the teacher and students identify questions about a topic or an issue and students explore these by gathering data and testing their conclusions.
What is problem-based learning?
The approach that provides students with realistic problems that don’t necessarily have right answers.
What is the cognitive apprenticeship?
A relationship in which a less experienced learner acquires knowledge and skills under the guidance of an expert.
What is reciprocal teaching?
A teaching approach in which students are guided to apply strategies of questioning, clarifying, summarising and predicting to foster deeper thinking about what is read.
What is reciprocal questioning?
The approach where groups of two or three students ask and answer each other’s questions after a lesson or presentation.
