Using community to improve mental health services…
Creating communities that are truly recovery-oriented is
imperative. By their nature, recovery-oriented services in
mental health focus on enhancing recovery from mental illness, rather than acting to prevent the problem in advance.
It is, however, equally important to emphasise both the prevention of, and recovery from, mental disorders through ensuring
social connection and inclusion among community members.
Elder abuse (6):
- Continuing problem in contemporary societies.
- Can be physical, psychological, financial, sexual, or neglect.
- Culture impacts attitudes around elder abuse (increase or decrease in prevalence and openness) but occurs everywhere.
- Often considered a personal or familial issue.
- Abuse in elders can create somatised symptoms.
- Ageism is a contributing factor.
