- In 1826 she escaped slavery with her daughter
- After her escape, she found out that she was an incredible speaker
- She gave speeches all over the place, describing what slavery was like
- Her most famous speech is known as “Ain’t I a woman?”

- In 1849 she was afraid that she would be sold in the South, so she made an escape through the underground railroad
- After her own escape she went back to help free over 700 enslaved people!
- She used the North Star and safe houses to guide enslaved people to freedom

- She wrote many books, but her most famous one “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” shook the nation
- The book talked about the cruelty of slavery and how awful black individuals were treated

- Clara helped so many people that she eventually got the nickname, “Angel of the Battlefield”
