The French started to seize American ships. So, Adams sent people to negotiate with agents known as XYZ. It was called this because the agents from France wanted to be known as XYZ.

A

A

A

Aaron Burr shot and killed Hamilton. Afterwards Burr was wanted for murder in two states but instead he decided to run.

Explain the War with the Barbary Pirates.

A

A small war where Barbary Pirates refused to let the US ships in their water. This ended up in a mini War at Sea. Jefferson decided to send warships to the area, and in the end the US won! After this Jefferson learned they needed a strong Navy.

Explain the Louisiana Purchase.

A

When Jefferson wanted New Orleans, which France owned at the time, Napoleon decided to sell the land but instead of just the city he gave them the Louisiana Territory for only a small amount of money. But at the time the constitution didn’t say that the President could buy land. But Jefferson went against his beliefs This was very successful!

Explain the Embargo Act.

A

This was when Jefferson created a law where all trade with Europe was banned. He did this because he wanted to stay out of war with France and Great Britain. This was a failure, Jefferson tried to only make it illegal to trade in France and Great Britain but it didn’t end up working.

Why did the War of 1812 occur?

A

One reason was because the US wanted to sail the same freely without any harassment another reason was because Native Americans wanted their land back what are the British and us were pushing the Native Americans back and West which was upsetting them.

A

Native Americans - Fighting for their land back
U.S. - Wanted land in Canada and to sail freely
British - Wanted to reclaim the U.S. again

Who was opposed and who supported the War of 1812 and why?

A

Lawmakers War Hawks James Madison and Western Frontiersman were all supporters of the war. Meanwhile, Federalists really didn’t support the war because they thought it was just a way for James Madison to get reelected.

How did the war end, what was the impact and result of the War of 1812?

A

Neither side of the war one but the Treaty of Ghent was signed and created peace for all the fighting. as well as most of the impressment and ship seizures ended.
