science quiz Flashcards
What are some examples of Sedimentary rocks?
Conglomerate, Limestone, and Sandstone.
What are some examples of Metamorphic rocks?
Marble, Gneiss, Slate.
What are some examples of Igneous rocks?
Granite, Pumice, Basalt.
How are Igneous rocks formed?
When magma cools or hardens.
How are Metamorphic rocks formed?
When other rocks are changed by heat and pressure.
How are Sedimentary rocks formed?
When pieces of rocks are pressed and cemented together.
What are clastic sedimentary rocks?
Clastic sedimentary rocks are formed from deposits of loose sediment found in Earth’s surface. They are are classified by their grain size.
What are organic sedimentary rocks?
Organic sedimentary rocks are formed from the remains of once living things. Its composed of calcite.
What are Chemical sedimentary rocks?
During chemical weathering minerals are carried into water and when water evaporates the dissolved minerals are left behind.
What are Non-Foliated rocks? What rock do they come from?
They are Metamorphic rocks, Non-foliated is when rocks aren’t formed from heat and pressure. They don’t have lines.
What are Foliated rocks? What rock do they come from?
They are Metamorphic rocks, Foliated is when they are made from heat and pressure. They have many lines.
What is the difference between intrusive and extrusive?
Extrusive is when lava is cooled ON earth’s surface, it cools fast so there will be small grains. Intrusive is when magma is cooled UNDER earth’s surface, it cools slowly so there will be large grains.
Clastic, Chemical and Organic is which type of rock?
Sedimentary rocks.
Foliated and Nonfoliated is which type of rock?
Metamorphic rocks.
