Q

strength of social pscyhological factors

A

rewsearch support for the role f the agentic state in obedience

most of partcipants in milgrasm study resisted getting shocks at some point
often asked questions to experiemnter suchc as who is repsonsile if the learner is harmed
if experimenter, stated they were involved, the partcipants often carried on with no further objections
suggets that once partiicpant percives their no longer responsblie for theis own behaviour, they act more easily as experimenters agent as milgram suggested

Q

strength of social psychological factors

A

research support for legitmacy of authoirty

e.g milgram moved the study to a run down office rather than prestifious yale uni, obedience droppedd to 47.5%
adiditonally, bickman foudn that 92% of pedesrians obeyesd an order to give a stranger money for a parking meter when the person giving the order was dressed as security gurard, compared to only 49% when he was dressed in ordnairy clothing

showing that when the authority figure has greater staus, more legitmate authority, they are more liekly to be obeyed
