Q

Strength of explanations of confomity

A

real world applications

real world applications that demonstrate NSI occur beyond the artificial lab setting
Schultz et al gathered data from many hotel rooms over a week where guests were allocated to rooms randomly as either control or experimental conditions
in control group, door hanger informing of environmental benefits of reusing towels
in experimental group, they were given additional info stating that 75% of guests chose to reuse their twoels each day
this group having been given normative info about other guests, reduced their need for fresh towles by 25 % showing they had conforemd to fit in with percieved group behaviour

Q

weakness of explnations of confrmity

A

Individual differnces
research shows NSI does not affect evryone behaviour in same way
e.g those who have less crae to be liked are less effected by NSI
those who need care more about being liked, are affected by NSI
