What is Social Stratification?
Social stratification is a hierachy in which groups have different statuses and different levels of privilege.
What is Social class?
A group of people having the same social and economic status.

A category of people lacking power; can be based on factors such as religion, disability and age e.g. Slavery, caste or estate.
Industrial Societies are?
Societies that use technology for mass production, in contrast to traditional societies.
What is an estate?
This is a later form of stratification in feudal societies in Europe in the medieval period. Individuals were born into a social layer called an estate , from which they could not move.( they are also more open than the caste system due to some intermarriage).
What is slavery?
A stratification in which one group is treated as the legal property of another group.
what is caste?
A closed stratification system traditionally found in India.
what are the three estates?
the three estates are:
the priests
the nobility or aristocracy
the commoners.
What is a closed society?
A society in which mobility between different levels of stratification is not possible.
