Poverty is a complex phenomenon that does not have a single cause. The main reasons are: not having paid work, being in low paid work etc

this is when poverty tends to be inherited, so the new generation cannot escape the poverty of their parents

when poor people are unable to escape from being poor

when poor people have a set of values that keep them in poverty e.g. low levels of literacy/education, not using resources etc.

people who are unable to take part in the society in the same way as most people and are excluded from social goods

Functionalists see inequality as a positive thing thats functional for the whole society. They believe inequality is needed for a stable society.To make the best use of the different qualities that people naturally have, society has to reward some people more than others
how do marxists see poverty and inequality
Marxist see inequality and poverty as inevitable consequences of capitalism ‘the rich get richer and the poor get poorer’ so the working class find that their wages fall and some become unemployed.

Right-wing thinkers use the culture of poverty argument to blame the poor for being poor. They believe that poverty is caused by culture rather than by the structure of society, as marxist do .
How do feminists see inequality and poverty
Feminists draw attention to the higher proportions of women than men who live in poverty. This has been called the feminisation of poverty . This is partly caused by the poverty of lone mothers but is also because women tend to be paid less on average than men.

Lack of Education- a lack of education can contribute to poverty because it limits individuals opportunities for better-paying jobs, without education people will struggle to find stable employment that pays a living wage.
Causes of poverty( Discrimination and Social Exclusion)
Discrimination based on factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, disability or religion can contribute to poverty by limiting access to education, employment, housing and other opportunities.
