Describe the Zajonc model?
- There are 4 types of others in sport.
- Competitors and social reinforcers (non passive)
- Audience and co actors (passive)
- Passive others cause an increase in arousal and an increased drive.
- The probability of dominant response is facilitated if it is an expert performer or a simple task, however it is inhibited if it is a novice or a complex task.
How is performance of experts and novices linked with the dominant response?
Experts= Well learned/ accurate dominant response becomes automatic under pressure, feels simple and is correct (facilitation).
Novice= Poorly learned/ inaccurate response becomes automatic under pressure, feels complex and is incorrect (inhibition).
What are 5 ways social inhibition can be prevented?
- Getting players familiar playing in front of a crowd.
- Gradually introducing evaluation.
- Improving focus and concentration.
