Why did Lovell and the Stafford begin their uprising ?
This is because they were staunch supporters of Richard III and were discontent with the rule of Henry VII.
What happened during the Stafford and Lovell rising ? (3)
1) After hearing about Henry’s royal progress to york in April 1486, the trio broke sanctuary from Colchester Cathedral.
2) Lord Lovell headed North planning to ambush henry
3) The Stafford brothers went West to West to Worcester to create unrest
How did The Lovell and Stafford rising come to an end ? (3)
1) Henry sent armed forces to offer the rebels a pardon if they surrendered, or death and excommunication if they fought
2) Lovell escaped to flanders while the Staffords once again sought sanctuary
3) Henry argued that the church should not offer them sanctuary for a second time declaring them both traitors
4) both were taken prisoner in the tower with Humphrey being executed and Thomas being pardoned and remaining loyal.
What did the Yorkshire rebellion highlight about Henry’s security as King ?
It showed that there was no real enthusiasm for a Yorkist rising at the time

1) A parliamentary loan was to be granted to Henry worth £100,000 to help Brittainy and would be raised through a new tax placed on Yorkshire

1) The Earl of Northumberland, Henry Percy negotiated with the King about the new tax.
2) However, he returned without a compromise and was murdered by the rebels
3) This led to John Egremont initiating riots over the tax

1) Rebels set out from Bodmin in Cornwall, marching through the western counties
2) As they marched through the western counties, they gained the support of Lord Audley
3) 15,000 rebels reached Devon
4) They then marched to Kent where they were opposed and many rebels deserted
5) 10,000 of the rebels reached BlackHeath on the outskirts of London

1) Once the rebels had reached Blackheath, Lord Daubeney and Sir Rhys Ap Thomas confronted the rebels with a royal army of 25,000
2) Battle of Deptford Bridge then followed on the 17th June 1497
3) Around 200-2000 of the rebels were killed in Battle
4) Audley and 2 other of the original local leaders were executed
5) Some of the Cornish rebels were sold into slavery
