What are social action theories ideas and what do they say about it’s influence on physical activity ?
- Considers how sport impacts society
- Society is created by social interaction
- Interaction leads to organisations being creates (e.g school and club groups etc)
- Interactions lead to social processes changing
- This promotes democratic sport
- Stops one group from dominating sport
What is the definition of equal opportunities ?
The right to access the same opportunities regardless of factors such as age, sex, mental or physical capability
What is the definition of prejudice ?
An unfavourable opinion of someone based on inadequate facts (dislike of people from a race, religion or culture)
What is the definition of discrimination ?
The unfair treatment of a person, or a minority group.
To make a distinction and act on prejudice
What is the definition of stereotyping ?
A standardised image.
Simple generalisations about all members of a group
Allows others to categorise them and treat them accordingly
What is the interactionist viewpoint ?
- They look at how society behaves within society
- The people in society create society
- Society has control over individuals but they are avke to change through social action
- Sports clubs are seen as secondary societies
- Makes organisations more democratic through working with all groups involved
Equality in sport and physical activity
- Equal opportunities are enforced in British laws ensure a fair treatment of all
- Sport England have an equality and diversity policy
- Policy enables a culture to develop which values everyones involvement
- Policy allows everyone to have an opportunity to play, compete and officiate
- Policy allows for barriers to be overcome for those wishing to play sport
What are the two types of discrimination ?
Overt discrimination = Visible and obvious such as physical or verbal abuse
Covert discrimination = Hidden or less obvious such as not selecting a player based on their ethnicity
