When would you use a PAR-Q
When planning to start an exercise or training plan/routine
Why do we perform a warm up?
Prepare muscles
Prepare joints
Prepare mind
Reduce risk of injury
Prepare ligaments
Prepare the cardiovascular system
What are the 3 phases of a warm-up?
Cardiovascular
Stretching (static and dynamic)
Sports specific
What do we do during our cardiovascular phase?
We gradually raise our heart rate to the working heartrate
It also helps us prepare mentally
How long is the cardiovascular phase?
Usually 10-15 minutes
What are the types of warm-up we use in the stretching phase?
Static- easy, on the spot stretching without straining
Dynamic- stretches that use movements specific to a sport, gradually increasing your reach and speed
What do we do in the sport- specific phase?
We will practice the skills of the activity such as:
Sprint starts
Practice throws
Throwing, catching and batting for cricket
What are the two phases of a cool-down?
Cardiovascular phase (light jog) to slowly reduce your heartrate to resting 5-10 minutes
Stretching phase (usually static) 10-15 minutes
